Javen or Javel or Javen water is a mixture of excess Cl 2 gas mixed into NaOH solution. Javen water is a mixture of two salts NaCl and NaClO. NaClO salt has very strong oxidizing properties, so Javel water has bleaching and antiseptic properties. Therefore it is often used to bleach fabrics, fibers, paper and disinfect sanitary facilities. NaClO salt - salt of weak hypochlorous acid, easily reacts with CO2 in the air to create hypochlorous acid with strong oxidizing properties
