Phosphoric acid is an intermediate product that is used to manufacture various types of phosphate fertilizers; DAP represented the largest share of this demand, while MAP, SSP, and TSP account for most of the rest. Approximately 10% of phosphoric acid is used in the food industry. The global demand for phosphoric acid is about 45 million tons a year. Only 10% of this is actually traded cross border and India is by far the largest importer.
