Liquid caustic soda is a clear or slightly colored liquid with the possible presence of a small sediment. It feels soapy when touched. The chemical composition of caustic soda makes it a strong base, capable of easily attacking the surfaces of aluminum, zinc and other amphoteric metals. This chemical, also known as industrial sodium, reacts with various acids. It also reacts with different metals to varying degrees: zinc, aluminum and other amphoteric metals dissolve easily, while the reaction with lead and tin is more difficult. Some other metals do not react to this reagent.
