Benzisothiazolinone is an organic compound with the formula C₆H₄SNCO. A white solid, it is structurally related to isothiazole, and is part of a class of molecules called isothiazolinones. BIT is widely used as a preservative and antimicrobial.

Ester India was established in 1980 as a small-scale unit manufacturing fine chemicals. The first product to start with was an ester, and hence the name. The unit is situated at an established chemical estate Nandesari, about 16 kms. north of the city of Vadodara which is situated in the western part of the country, about 450 kms north of Mumbai, the financial capital of the country.
