Bentonite clay or bentonite is a gray or grey-brown powder belonging to mineral formations. A distinctive feature is the crystal size of less than 1 micron. And, which explains the high dispersion and large specific surface area. The properties of bentonite are ensured by the presence of ion-exchange cations on the surface of the crystals. Upon contact with liquids, it dissolves easily, then it increases in size, as a result of which the composition acquires a viscous consistency. After the liquid evaporates, the composition remains elastic, while maintaining water-repellent properties. Further, in the case of mechanical impact, it takes the form of a solid film.
